MESSAGE FROM THE TRACK COMMISSIONER As we enter the track season, we look forward to another year of our athletes displaying the sportsmanship they have in prior years by giving 100% in their events, cheering on their teammates, and encouraging their opponents throughout the day. I like to tell new track and field parents to think of a middle school track meet as a 4-hour picnic. Bring your comfortable chairs, a blanket, and a cooler loaded with drinks and snacks then sit back and enjoy watching your children compete. If you want the time to pass by more quickly offer to volunteer as a timer, scorekeeper, measurer, or even the ribbon sorter. The more volunteers we have at each meet the faster the meet runs. In order to provide the safest environment for your children, we do request that all team tents and parents not volunteering to stay off the infield of the track during the days events. Often, especially with the relay events, it is difficult for runners to see or hear the starter when spectators are in the infield, and we certainly do not want anyone accidentally hit with a vortex or shot put during the throwing events. Team tents are welcome around the corridor of the track, however. Good luck to each of you this track season! Darcy Jeffers Track Commissioner
